Rajab Ali - Programme Manager
My background is in youth and community work. I joined the SLP in 2003 as a volunteer on the Peer Mentoring Project. I felt welcome, valued and as part of the team at the SLP in my role as a Peer Mentor. After volunteering for 6 months I was sure that I would like to pursue a career in the voluntary sector and preferably with The SLP. In 2004 I joined The SLP as a paid employee, working as a Sessional Youth Worker working with the The Youth Inclusion Programme (YIP) and The Detached Youth Work Team. In 2006 I joined The YIP as a full-time employee working at first as a case youth worker and later as the Interventions Lead, were I developed the summer holiday, Half Term and weekly interventions/activities for young people at risk of offending. During my time with the SLP I also had the opportunity to work with The Global Exchange on two exchanges to Indonesia in 2008 and 2011.
In 2011 The SLP received funding to deliver the Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Victims & Witnesses Champion work. I applied for and I was successful in securing the post. It is based on the previously funded Victims and Witnesses Champion work as part of the Justice Seen Justice Done Campaign; a cross government programme to address public concerns about crime and justice, while raising the public’s awareness and understanding of the services they are entitled to from police and other agencies, including those for victims. The overall aim of this project is to deliver practical help and support to those who are victims or witnesses of anti-social behaviour. The project is part of the Priority ASB Team. In addition to delivering my own project I manage the other projects in the absence of the SLP Director. I have worked with some amazing people in my 17 years at The SLP and I have made lifelong friends. Working at the SLP has been a fulfilling experience for me and one which I hope will continue for many years to come.
